WORLD BOOK DAY 2021

It’s hard to believe that it’s March again but things are looking up, spring is in the air, the vaccine is being rolled out and today we get to celebrate books. World Book Day is a chance for us every year to read, share, celebrate and discover great books for children. While things are a little different this year, as many children are still doing their schoolwork at home, that doesn’t mean we can’t still take part in lot’s of exciting events, activities, storytimes and best of all reading. Check out the website to find out more.

World Book Day Ireland – World Book Day

The library has hundreds of digital titles available for children. Here is just a small selection of the great books available for children on Borrowbox.

Finding books for your children can be hard especially when you are stuck at home without access to a knowledgeable bookseller, librarian or teacher to guide you through the various reading stages and where to go next as your child progresses.

Over the next few days I’m going to share some of the best children’s books for all ages, both fiction and non fiction. I’m also going to recommend some books for reluctant readers or children with reading difficulties such as dyslexia.

I also want to highlight some of the great Teen and Young Adult fiction available as well as the great classic books which can be stepping stones to becoming a life long reader.

Step One is joining the library. Make sure you join each member of your household so that each child can avail of the full range of services. There is no minimum age limit to join the library. Your child can become a member of the library on day one. At the moment libraries are closed so you will need to join online. You can do that at this link.

Once libraries reopen you can go to your local branch where you can update your online membership and receive a library card that is unique to you. This is completely free.

Keep an eye on the Facebook Instagram and Twitter accounts for your local library. You can usually find these on our website

Remember your local library is part of your local authority so search for Louth Library Service rather than Dundalk Library or Drogheda library. We are all one big team!
